Think about it, no water, your kidneys shut down in 3 days. hygiene is important and even if you have a vehicle that operates after, you have basically 2 hours till martial law sets up and shuts down all movement. If you can make it out of town in 2 hours tops, well at least you have a fighting chance. Diesel motors like in a 1985 ford pickup, with NO COMPUTER EQUIPMENT will be your best bet. And cars wont' work, tractors won't work. Everything that has an electric motor is fried. Millions of people starve to death or die from untreated garbage contaminating everything. And what's left of wild nature is destroyed as everyone rushes to become subsistence farmers. Tanks also don't work. America is so vulnerable that whoever launched that bomb follows with a ground attack, which is successful! And I doubt they care that much about mother nature.
